Originating from Richmond, Virginia, via Miami Beach, Gills and Wings are ready to hit the road in support of their eponymous debut EP. Combining the shimmery indie sound of Radiohead with the muscular and operatic rock of Queen, the band have already established a strong following in the short time they’ve been together. They have also headlined The National Theatre in their hometown, and have had their music played on MTV’s The Real World. Now they’re preparing to bring their arena-filling sound to the nation.

Evan Bliss is one singer-songwriter to watch. His voice, combining the effortless soul of Maroon 5’s Adam Levine with the smoky blues undertones of Ray LaMontagne, makes his alt/rock/pop sound unmistakable. Ubiquitous despite not yet being a household name, Evan’s music has been featured in commercials for surf-inspired footwear maker Reef, and he has performed in support of artists as diverse as O.A.R., Wyclef Jean, and the Flaming Lips. Evan is building on the groundswell of popularity he enjoyed with his former band, well-respected East Coast reggae rockers ‘The Low Life’. Needless to say, you will be hearing much more from him with the forthcoming release ‘ShhhPOW’, out this Spring on the philanthropic indie label Holster Records.

DC native Ted Garber fills the spaces between musical genres with his own unique brand of “BluesAmericanaRock.” A self-proclaimed student of culture, the all-American singer-songwriter has taken his howling harmonica riffs and potent guitar licks to more than thirty countries on four continents. His music is a combination of three major inspirations – his late folk musician father, the New Orleans rhythm and blues scene, and his love of travel, culture and language. The result is his new album “American Rail’’ – a deeply personal collection of songs steeped in American tradition with an international twist.
The Multi-Dimensional New Music Initiative, ‘Twelve Days Project’, Hits Washington DC

The ‘Twelve Days Project’ is an innovative new music initiative created by the DC folk-rock group The Dreamscapes Project and their independent record label Figmental Records. On January 18th, 2010 the band will launch a collaborative project which unites DC’s music, art and film worlds with local charities and media to create a unique multi-dimensional, virtual-installation piece. Each month for twelve months, the Dreamscapes Project will release one exclusive new music track for free, via a DC media source. They will also showcase “re-imaginations” of the track created by emerging DC area film-makers, creative writers, visual artists and DJs. The project will be supported by a series of monthly concerts in the DC area, with proceeds donated to a different charity each month.

The saying “every cloud has a silver lining” certainly rings true for Justin Trawick, whose recent job loss became the catalyst in turning his lifelong passion for music into a full-time career. This life changing moment inspired his latest EP, ‘Starting Over’, which combines pop, bluegrass, and roots rock with a raw acoustic singer/songwriter sound. Trawick describes his brand of music as “Urban Folk Rock”, akin to Jason Mraz, Ryan Adams, and Bob Schneider. With numerous shows now under his belt, including DC’s legendary 9.30 Club, The Kennedy Center, Birchmere, and the State Theatre, the hands of fate are quickly ensuring the singer-songwriter’s talent takes center stage.
